Headshot sessions

HOW IT ALL WORKS

Check out the Headshot Gallery here.

The Cost:

Headshot sessions are $290.

What you get and when:

I aim to have your proof gallery ready within 2 weeks, and will send you your final images via Dropbox within 2 weeks of your selection.

You get 5 jpeg images in the following resolutions:

  • High resolution – print ready up to 8×10 (approx A4 size)
  • Web-optimised low resolution – for use on websites (i.e., your agents’ website, or Showcast) and for emailing.

All images will be delivered in colour and black & white.

The Shoot:

I’m primarily a natural light photographer who loves to shoot in natural locations. I believe that a great headshot is relaxed, natural, and full of personality, and the more comfortable you are, the more of you we’ll get in your photos. So, we’ll discuss a location that works for you when you call to book.

Shoots take around 1 hour from start to finish. We’ll spend a bit of time at the beginning having a chat, working out what you want from your photos, and basically getting to know each other. Then, when you’re feeling comfortable and ready to go, we start shooting! Don’t feel like you have to have all your looks and poses sorted out beforehand – what we’re after is a series of natural, personal images that show you at your best. We’ll chat all the way through the shoot, and I’ll just snap away – some of the best images come from a natural response. So all you have to do is relax, and answer my questions! Laughing at my (lame) jokes is not a requirement.

Hair & Makeup:

Having great hair and makeup is certainly important, but you also need to look like your headshot when you turn up at an audition. And if you can’t recreate the look a professional hairdresser or makeup artist creates, then it’s not worth spending the money. Your best bet is to wear your hair in its natural style (feel free to get a trim the day before your shoot!), and stick to simple, feature-enhancing makeup. Guys – please, no makeup. Regardless of what you may have heard, it’s a bad idea.

If you’re concerned about your skin or dark circles under your eyes or anything else, we can discuss retouching your images. However, it’s good to keep in mind that your headshot should portray YOU as honestly as possible – and sometimes that means warts and all!

Clothing:

Wear something you feel fantastic in. But keep these guidelines in mind at the same time:

  • Keep your clothing simple, and avoid jewellery – it can be very distracting.
  • Don’t wear white, unless you are quite dark in your skin tone, hair colour, and eye colour. It can make actors look quite washed out. Moderate to dark tones look best and make your face and eyes ‘pop’.
  • Stay away from stripes, dots, and patterns – block colour is best.
  • Guys look great in a Bonds singlet or Bonds tshirt with a round neckline.
  • Girls look best in tops with simple, clean necklines.
  • Wear clothes that fit well – the object is to display your body shape without being too suggestive.
  • Avoid turtlenecks. They make your neck disappear. Not good.

If in doubt, bring a range of tops with you, and we can work it out on the day.

Payment:

You can pay with cash on the day of your shoot, or by direct deposit (don’t you just LOVE internet banking?) prior to the day of your shoot.
